Ivica Prtenjača
Ivica Prtenjača (Rijeka, 1969) studied the Croatian language at the Faculty of Pedagogy in Rijeka. His poems and poetic cycles have been translated into French, Swedish, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Hungarian, Macedonian, English, German, Italian, and Bulgarian. Prtenjača has participated in twenty European poetic festivals and meetings. His works have been included in several anthologies and histories of Croatian literature. He writes poetry, prose, and drama.
Some of the many awards Pretnjača received for his work are Prize for literature at the 25th Salon of Young Artists in Zagreb 1998, Prize for the best book of poetry at the 5th Kvirin ́s Meetings 2001, The Kiklop Award for the best book of poetry 2006, The Dobriša Cesarić Award for the best unpublished book of poetry 2009, The Risto Ratković Award for poetry, Montenegro 2010.
His novel The Hill won the first prize at V.B.Z. and Tisak Media Competition for the Best Unpublished Novel in the Region 2014, the BOOKtiga Prize 2016 (founded with the goal of honoring books and reading, is awarded yearly to the author of the most widely read Croatian book in the libraries of the Istria region) and it has also been shortlisted for the T-portal literary award, the Meša Selimović Award for Best Novel of 2014 and longlisted for International Dublin Literary Award. Prtenjača received the V.B.Z. award for the Best Unpublished Novel again in 2021 for his novel Son, Let’s go Home. He lives and works in Zagreb.
