
Tomica Šćavina
Tomica Šćavina was born in 1975 and is a Croatian writer and poet. She holds a degree in Psychology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb.
Her first novel, A Ship for Lajka, was shortlisted for the VBZ Prize for Best Unpublished Novel, while her second novel, The Return of a Genius, earned her two awards: the Sfera and Artefakt prizes. Her third novel, A Room at the Bottom of the Sea, was also shortlisted for the VBZ Prize. She has published two poetry collections, The Ornaments of a Fall and A House of Wind, as well as two children's books, The Tamer of Clouds and The Love Legend. In 2025, her fourth novel, Silenced Tongue, was published.
Šćavina taught the Psychology of Creativity and Psychology of Characters courses at Vern University in Zagreb. She has participated in artistic residencies in Florida, Rhodes, Idaho, Alabama, Latvia, Finland, and Norway. She is a member of the Croatian Writers’ Society and the Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association.
