Authors

Asja Bakić (Tuzla, 1982), graduated from the University of Tuzla with a degree in Bosnian language and literature. Her debut poetry collection, Može i kaktus, samo neka bode (It Can Be a Cactus, as Long as it Stings, 2009) was nominated for the Kiklop Literary Award in 2010. Mars (Mars, 2015), her first short story collection was shortlisted for the Edo Budiša Award for young writers and published in the USA by Feminist Press. In 2020 she published another short story collection Sweetlust (Sladostrašće, 2020) and Dođi, sjest ću ti na lice (Come Over, I’ll Sit on Your Face), a compilation of essays from Muf, a portal dedicated to a feminist reading of popular culture, where she was one of the core editors and authors.

Bakić was selected as one of Literary Europe Live’s New Voices in 2017. She has translated Emily Dickinson, Alejandra Pizarnik, Elizabeth Bishop, Emil Cioran, Jacques Rancière, and other prominent authors into Croatian, while her own poems and stories have been translated into English, Polish, Czech, Macedonian, Slovenian, Romanian and Swedish.

She currently lives and works in Zagreb.
