Dorta Jagić

Dorta Jagić (Sinj, 1974) graduated in Religious Studies from the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. She writes poetry, short prose, plays, picture books, and theatre criticism, works as a translator from English and German, and teaches poetry creative writing. Her stories and poems have been translated into more than twenty languages in acclaimed literature magazines.

She attended numerous residencies and international poetry festivals. She also worked as an author and editor on several Croatian and foreign projects combining poetry and other artistic expressions – dance, design, and music. Dorta Jagić won several important awards and recognitions, including Goranovo proljeće in 1999, The Balkan Grand Prize for Poetry in 2007 (awarded by the International Academy Orient-Occident at the poetry festival “Curtea de Arges Poetry Nights“ in Romania), The European Poet of Freedom Literary Prize 2014 (awarded by the city of Gdańsk), the Goranov vijenac Award 2017 and Višnja Machiedo Award in 2019.
