Croatian authors and publishers at the Warsaw Book Fair from 17th to 20th May 2018

16/05/2018

For the third time, Croatian authors and publishers will be presented to the Polish readers and industry representatives at the Warsaw Book Fair, which is to take place 17-20 May 2018.

The venue of the Fair will be the National Stadium, a cult edifice of contemporary Polish architecture, which will become a book platform during the course of four days.

Croatian national stand (stand: 52a/D9) will be located in the international section of the Fair's circular layout, in the close vicinity of the space provided for the guest country, which will this year be France. The program concept and attendance organization is assigned to the Croatian Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Croatia in Poland.

In line with the selected program approach, thematic zones and the main theme of the Fair, the stand will feature a varied-genre, most recent Croatian literary production. Following the Fair, the books will be donated to the Croatian Department at the University of Warsaw, in order to support numerous students of Croatian Language and Literature studying at this esteemed institution.

Additionally, two program events are planned during the Fair peak time.

Mrs Malgorzata Wierzibcka, an experienced translator from Croatian to Polish, will talk about the reception of Croatian poetry in Poland, along with presenting the work of the poet Dorta Jagić, recipient of an important Polish literary prize.

Professor of Croatian Literature and Vice-Dean for Polish and International Cooperation at the University of Poznan, Dr Krystyna Pieniążek-Marković, will present an overview of Croatian literature as perceived by the Polish readership, discussing the questions such as what are the interests of Polish readers, which authors are being translated and what is the role of Polish Croatists as intermediaries in this exchange.

The program raised significant interest already in the announcement stage, which is why we expect an interactive format which will involve, along with professor Pieniążek, several other prominent experts in Croatian and Polish Studies.
