Josip Mlakić

Novelist and screenwriter, born in 1964 in Bugojno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, lives in Gornji Vakuf - Uskoplje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His first published work was a collection of short stories Puževa kućica published in 1997. His second novel Živi i mrtvi was released in 2002 and was awarded with VBZ's Literature Prize and Ksaver Šandor Gjalski Award. He also wrote novels Kad magle stanu (2002), Psi i klaunovi (2006), Tragom zmijske košuljice (2007), Čuvari mostova (2007), Ljudi koji su sadili drveće (2010) and Planet Friedman (2013). He wrote the screenplay for his award-winning novel Živi i mrtvi, and the film was awarded with eight Golden Arenas at the 54th Film Festival in Pula in 2007. He also wrote the screenplay for the award-winning movie There (2003). His novels have been translated into English, German, Slovak and Slovenian.
