    Croatian Soundscript brings literature into the streets of South America

    The interactive mobile application Croatian Soundscript (Hrvatski zvukopis), an original project by the arts organization YELO, has arrived in Santiago, Punta Arenas, and Buenos Aires, inviting users to discover Croatian literature woven into the fabric of the city. In public spaces across these cities, users can now listen to and read 90 geolocated audio stories by Croatian contemporary and classic writers, available in Croatian, English, and Spanish.

    Croatian writer Miljenko Jergović has been awarded the prestigious Leipziger Buchpreis zur Europäischen Verständigung for 2026, for his book "Three for Kartal. Sarajevo Marlboro Remastered". The award ceremony will take place on 18 March 2026, at the opening of the Leipzig Book Fair.

    The prestigious regional Meša Selimović Literary Award for the best novel published in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, and Serbia in 2024 has been awarded to Jurica Pavičić for his novel Matchsticks, a gripping story about a devastating wildfire on the outskirts of the city of Split that gradually unfolds into a haunting investigation of personal and collective guilt.

    Titles Published by the Croatian-American Publisher Sandorf Passage Nominated for Prestigious International Literary Awards

    Sandorf Passage was founded in South Portland, Maine in 2020 by the Zagreb-based publisher Ivan Sršen and his American colleague, freelance literary editor Buzz Poole. Since then, Sandorf Passage has published twenty-five titles, primarily high-quality literature in translation. Last week, two of Sandorf Passage's novels were longlisted for two significant English-language literary awards.

    Sandorf and Mljet National Park will have a joint appearance at the two largest European book fairs: London Book Fair and Frankfurt, held in March (London) and October (Frankfurt) each year, which will include the presentation of the project “Odisejevo utočište – Ulysses' Shelter” and presentation of the visitor offer and natural and cultural heritage of the Mljet National Park.     The Glembays cycle by Miroslav Krleža published in France

    All three plays of the acclaimed drama cycle The Glembays – Messrs. Glembay (1928), In Agony (1928/1957), Leda (1932) – by one of the greatest Croatian authors Miroslav Krleža have been published in France by Prozor-éditions as La Trilogie ses Glembay. This marks the very first French translation of the entire cycle, available now to francophone audiences, almost an entire century since it was originally published.

    Croatian literature in Guadalajara International Book Fair

    Croatian literature in Guadalajara is presented by three authors who are inspired by different themes, with which they try to connect Croatian modernity with local traditions and heritage, questioning the relationships and problems that are universal i.e. human. Robert Perišić and Olja Savičević Ivančević are linked to the heritage of the Mediterranean, whilst Kristian Novak is inspired by Međimurje, the continental, river landscape of northwestern Croatia.

    Croatian publishers to participate in the Frankfurt Bookfair 2023.

    Croatian publishers will once again participate at the world’s largest book fair, Frankfurt Buchmesse (18-22 October 2023), thanks to the organisational efforts by the Croatian association of publishers and booksellers, and the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media.
