Open Call for Residency for Literary Translators and Writers

The Croatian Literary Translators’ Association launches its first residency located in Zagreb, Croatia, welcoming writers, and literary translators – a project funded by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media. Applications are open to both literary translators who live abroad and translate Croatian writers, and foreign writers whose works are currently being translated into Croatian.

The residency will be open from April 20 to December 31, 2022, with applications open all year. The Croatian Literary Translators’ Association launches its first residency located in Zagreb, Croatia. The residency welcomes writers and literary translators, providing them with valuable time and space to focus on their work in a pleasant and stimulating environment.

Applications are open to both literary translators who live abroad and translate Croatian writers, and foreign writers whose works are currently being translated into Croatian. For the duration of their stay, residents will be accommodated in an apartment located in the centre of Zagreb and receive a daily allowance of €20. They will have the opportunity to present their work to the local audiences, and will be invited to participate in various events, together with their Croatian counterparts and university students.

The residency will be open from April 20 to December 31, 2022.

Application deadline: all year, availability permitting
Duration of residency: 2 to 4 weeks
Eligible candidates: foreign translators and writers, with at least one published literary work
Contributions during the stay: residents will be invited to write a text for the residency blog. They will also be invited to literary meetings, and to share their know-how with students from the University of Zagreb.
Application procedure: applications including a biography, a bibliography, a motivation letter, as well as the title of the book on which the candidate wishes to work during his or her stay are to be sent to: ured@dhkp.hr
